Initial Premium Payments

Your coverage will not become effective until you make your first payment. If you did not pay when you applied for your health insurance, your initial premium must be received by BCBSNC® by the last day of the month prior to the effective date of coverage (Example: December 31 for coverage effective on January 1).

How to Pay

Marketplace

Online bcbsnc.com/pay
Automated Pay by Phone 888-802-2386

Your initial premium payment must be for the exact amount of your monthly premium. You can pay more than your monthly premium with subsequent premium payments.

Non-Marketplace (direct through BCBSNC®)

Payment is typically submitted with your application. If you have any questions, contact your agent.

Ongoing Premium Payments

You have several options to make your premium payment every month.

  • We highly recommend setting up your BlueConnectNC account and scheduling your monthly payments by recurring bank draft, credit card or debit card.
  • When you select recurring payments, your premium is automatically drafted from your bank account or charged to your debit or credit card each month.
  • You can also pay each month by check or money order

Automatic Recurring Payments

If you select recurring payments, your payment will be drafted or charged to your card automatically around the 1st of the month. If the 1st is on a Saturday or Sunday, the draft or charge will occur on the next business day.

Manual Payments

If you select not to pay with automatic recurring payments, you can pay online each month by bank draft or credit card. Payment is due on the 1st of the month with a 30-day grace period. To keep your account current, you must pay your premium by the 30th of the month it is due (Example: Your premium for June must be paid by June 30th). If you do not make your payment by the last day of the month, your policy will remain active, but benefits will be deactivated until your account is current. If your payment has still not been received prior to the 10th of the following month (Example: By July 10th for a payment that was due in June), you will have to pay a double premium to get your account current and reactivate benefits the next time you pay online. If you do not pay your premium after more than 90 days, your policy will terminate.

If you pay by check or money order, your bill will be sent out three weeks prior to the due date. Example: Your bill for June will be sent on May 10. Payment is due on the 1st of the month with a 30 day grace period. If your payment is not received by the last day of the month, your benefits will terminate.
