ACA Annual Open Enrollment: Get Affordable Health Insurance!

Affordable Care Act Annual Open Enrollment (a.k.a. ACA Open Enrollment) for 2023 health insurance coverage will begin on November 1, 2023, and close on December 15, 2023. The 2024 Annual Enrollment Period for ACA gives you less than a month to enroll or make changes to your 2024 health insurance coverage!

When the Annual ACA Open Enrollment Period is open, you are able to purchase health insurance from the Health Insurance Marketplace, or from anywhere else, and will be able to enroll or make changes to your health insurance coverage. After the Affordable Care Act Annual Open Enrollment Period closes, you will not be able to make any changes to your health insurance coverage. The only exception applies to those who qualify for a Special Enrollment Period triggered by a birth, significant income change, marriage, residential move, or a loss of employer coverage or other limited qualifying events.

You will need to determine if you wish to keep your existing plan (if it is still available) and re-determine your Federal Health Insurance Premium Subsidy during the Annual Enrollment Period. If you simply allow the automatic re-enrollment process to take place, you may end up paying more than is required and with slightly different benefits. So it is best to take advantage of the ACA Annual Enrollment Period to evaluate your health insurance plan and see if it will continue to meet your needs.

It is wise to consult one of the personal reform advisors (licensed agents) at WNC Health Insurance / The Asheville Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina® Store during the Annual Enrollment Period. At no cost to you, a licensed agent can point out some of the major differences between the types of policies offered. If your plan is subsidized, a personal reform advisor at our office can guide you through the process of re-determining your subsidy so that your monthly premium can be as low as possible.
